Dry Creek Valley: Woods Vineyard

Frank Woods, founder of Clos du Bois Winery, has owned this estate vineyard since 1972.  Located in the Southern end of the valley on benchland bordering Dry Creek and only a few miles from the Russian River Valley appellation, the vineyard is farmed sustainably and organically by legendary Sonoma County vineyard manager Duff Bevill of Bevill Vineyard Management (Merry Edwards, Nickel&Nickel, Dry Creek Vineyard and others).   Replanted after an extensive soil analysis, movement and drainage project in 2005, twenty acres are planted to Clone 1 Sauvignon Blanc, oriented Southeast to Northwest.

Tasting Notes

The 2009 Estate Sauvignon Blanc strikes a beautiful balance between new world and old world style on the nose and palate.  Classic Sancerre-like aromas of minerals, lemon zest, and citrus on the nose.  Light and crisp on the attack, the mid-palate shows strong tropical fruit notes of kiwi, grapefruit and tangerine.  Balance and elegance are key descriptors of this wine.  Light, crisp and dry, this wine finishes extremely clean with a bright acidity that begs for another sip.  Drink now through 2012.
